Affordable Housing Task Force


Affordable Housing Task Force

Task Force Appointed

The City Council has named a 23 member Affordable Housing Task Force for the purpose of completing a comprehensive study on the City's housing needs.

The Task Force's charge is to provide input into affordable housing polices and strategies that should be considered as part of the City's Comprehensive Plan Update process.

Time Frame

The Task Force is expected to be in operation for a five to six month period and present its recommendations concerning affordable housing strategies for Council review and approval at the end of this period. The Task Force will meet on a monthly basis with all meetings open to the public.

Proposed Tasks

  • Review affordable housing needs and issues identified
  • Review the existing housing element and current City of Raleigh housing programs and resources
  • Review best practices in other jurisdictions.
  • Submit recommendations on potential affordable housing strategies to City Council
  • Review the Draft Comprehensive Plan, including the Community Inventory and the Housing Element.
  • Provide input regarding affordable housing strategies

The next meeting will be Thursday, January 22, 2009, in Room 305 in the Raleigh Municipal Building at 3:30.

The City of Raleigh Community Development Department is responsible for staffing the Task Force meetings, in coordination with the Planning Department.
