Downtown Parking Task Force

For the past several months a consulting team has been working with City staff and the Downtown Parking Task Force – whose members are appointed by the city council -- to examine parking issues in downtown Raleigh.  The purpose of the study is to develop a plan for improving downtown access to parking.

Citizens have the opportunity to attend forums held by the consulting team and see key findings of the field investigations and hear principals and strategies related to downtown parking and access that may affect future planning and policy decisions. These forums are also an opportunity for input from the community before completing the report. Whether you live, work, shop, do business, or simply visit downtown to have fun, citizens are being asked to provide feedback.

The next Public Input Forum on Downtown Parking will be held on August 26, 2008, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in Council Chambers, 2nd floor of the Municipal Building, 222 W. Hargett Street.

The parking consultant's Draft Report containing key recommendations on improving the City's parking operations and strategies have been posted on the website along with the notes taken from the Downtown Parking Task Force's working meetings for the past 9 months.  This will provide two weeks for interested parties to study the report in detail, in preparation for the Forum.

The parking study is nearing completion and the Task Force is interested to hear the comments and opinions of the citizens of Raleigh before the Report is presented to Council in October.
