Police Recruitment
Raleigh is a great city with an outstanding police force, and the Raleigh Police Department offers wide ranging career possibilities to qualified applicants. The Raleigh Police Department is seeking responsible and dedicated individuals who are interested in a career in law enforcement. As a Raleigh police officer, you will work to protect lives and property through general police duties as well as have the opportunity to develop your skills in specialized fields.
New Lateral Transfer Program:
The Raleigh Police Department now accepts lateral transfers from other law enforcement agencies. It is the goal of the department to recruit and hire committed and experienced officers who are uniquely qualified to become Capital City police officers. Lateral entry candidates will receive the starting salary of a Raleigh police officer plus 4% for each year of RPD equivalent experience.
The application process and requirements for hire are the same for all applicants. All applicants must successfully complete the Raleigh Police Academy and department's 20-week Field Training Program. There is an abbreviated academy for lateral cadets.
