Community Inventory Report
A critical part of every comprehensive plan is a background analysis of existing conditions to inform the overall planning process. The purpose of this Community Inventory is to provide a factual and analytical basis for the Comprehensive Plan Update, and to focus on the issues facing the City today and through the year 2030.


Past Raleigh Population and Acreage Data Since 1800

The chart shows Raleigh’s population by year and the corresponding city square miles from year 1800 to present year.


Growth and Development Report
The Growth and Development report shows growth trends, development information, population statistics, employment figures, cost of living indices and more.


Population Estimate
An estimated projection of Raleigh’s population based on calculations from residential unit certificates of occupancy, census tract persons per household and occupancy rates, annexed units, groups quarters and demolitions.  See Population Estimate Methodology for more detail.


Community Profile
The community profile is a brief summary of information about Raleigh's population, geography, employment, development, housing, economy and other general information.


Census Tract Charts
The charts contain certain census information pertaining to Raleigh by census tract.  The information includes racial percentage, median age, units, owner occupied vs. renter occupied units, income and education comparisons.  Also, listed are comparisons of Raleigh census data to Wake County, North Carolina and the United States.

NOTE:
2000 census tracts differ from 1990 census tracts which makes them not comparable.
