New Convention Center

The City is undertaking the construction of a new 500,000 square foot convention center to replace the existing 1970's -era center.

Construction underway.  Opening mid-2008.

Fayetteville Street Renaissance

Re-design and streetscape construction on Fayetteville Street. This project will result in the re-oepening of at least 3 blocks of the Fayetteville Street Mall to traffic. Current project will study the conversion of Hargett and Martin Streets to two-way traffic.

Phase 1 Complete.  Phase 2 in design

  Courthouse Square

In conjunction with the Fayetteville Street re-design, Wake County is renovating and redesigning the public space in front of the Courthouse.

  New County Courthouse

New courthouse planned to supplement existing courthouse.  New facility planned for block between Salisbury and McDowell St. Anticipated 2009.

The Green Square

Major research addition to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. 700 space parking deck.  Department of Environment and Natural Resources and State Employees Credit union

County Mixed-Use Parking Deck

Wake County has partnered with Empire Properties to develop a public parking deck at McDowell and Davie Streets with 100,000 square feet of office space wrapping the deck.  In design.

One Exchange Plaza

City purchase of downtown office tower - renovation and expansion of City offices and private offices.  "The Mint" restaurant to open 2007.

Glenwood South Streetscapes

Sidewalks, lighting, undergrounding of utility lines, tree planting
$1.4 Million budgeted

State Government Center Master Plan Update

Partially in response to the Blount Street project, which will displace several hundred parking spaces and about 250 state employees, the State of NC is embarking on a revision and update to its State Government Complex Master Plan.

Downtown West Gateway Redevelopment Plan

Property acquisition and redevelopment plan for blighted area near TTA downtown rail station in western portion of downtown area.

Plan approved fall 2004

Triangle Transit Authority Regional Rail Stations

Two stations to be constructed in downtown Raleigh.
$50,000 set aside for public art at each station.

Construction to begin on stations in 2005/2006. Rail service to begin late 2007 /early 2008

Transit Station Area Planning - City of Raleigh

City has hired Clarion Associates to manage planning process for area near transit station, will identify regulatory changes to increase development intensity around each station. Process underway Oct. 2003.

Intermodal Center

Plan to create a multi-functional transit center around the TTA regional rail station that will provide facilities for Interstate High Speed Rail, Amtrak, local bus service, inter-city bus service, taxis

Clarence Lightner Public Safety Center

City of Raleigh plan to create new headquarters facility for Police and Fire Departments. Seeking site in downtown east. $1.4 Million has been appropriated for land acquisition

New Local Historic Districts Study

Studies are underway by Raleigh Historic Districts Commission to consider designation of new local historic districts to allow use of tax credits in renovating properties. Considering downtown east location, Depot district, other sites on Fayetteville Street.

Parks Improvements

City has budgeted $2.25 Million for renovations and expansions of Halifax Center and Chavis Park facilities - part of bond package approved October 2003.
