The Community Development Department provides affordable housing for Raleigh residents and improves the living conditions in the City's Redevelopment Areas. This Department strives to improve the availability, affordability, and quality of housing in Raleigh. The Department provides financial assistance for affordable housing and public services throughout the City, usually through partnerships with other funding sources. Local partners include Wake County Housing Assistance, DHIC, Habitat for Humanity, Passage Home, Raleigh Housing Authority, Resources for Seniors, CASA, Evergreen Construction, NC Housing Finance Agency, St. Augustine's College CDC, the Women's Center, and Triangle Family Services. At least once a year the Department issues Requests for Proposals to provide funds for housing developers and a Community Enhancement Grant Request for Proposals (RFP) to non-profit and faith-based organizations.
Public Hearing--Amend Community Development Block Grant-Recovery Funds: On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, during the 1:00 p.m. City Council Meeting at 222 West Hargett Street, Room 201, CD intends to amend the CDBG-R budget to fund the St Monica's Teen Center rehabilitation. The funds designated for sidewalk construction ($98,316) and the weatherization program ($70,000) will be CD staff will be reallocated. The City should maintain an ongoing partnership with the private sector and continued intergovernmental cooperation with County, regional, and state governments
Affordable housing must be made available throughout the City of Raleigh
Raleigh’s housing and community development programs emphasize neighborhood revitalization to encourage neighborhood stability and preservation of existing housing stock
