Tanker Arrives To Complete Cleanup Of Chemical Spill

A tanker has arrived at Mallinckrodt Chemical, 8801 Capital Boulevard, to pump up the remaining 3,000 gallons of sulfuric acid that had leaked from an outdoor tank. All the needed cleanup crews are now at the site. A brief rain shower has passed through the area and the situation is improving. Residents who live within a half-mile radius of Mallinckrodt no longer have to remain indoors.

The sulfuric acid leaked from a failed tank into a containment basin. The containment basin is a required safety precaution that is designed to catch any leaks from tanks containing hazardous materials. The leak, which was reported about 7:30 a.m., is confined to the company’s property.
