Foster Grandparent Program


Eligibility

  • Be age 60 and over
  • Meet income guidelines as established by the federal grantor
  • Care about children and want to help their individual growth and development
  • Be physically and mentally able to serve
  • Accept supervision as required

 

Orientation and Training
Foster Grandparents are given 40 hours of orientation and pre-service training. 20 hours will include classroom involvement, provided by Foster Grandparent Program staff; 20 hours will include staff on the job training, provided by the station.

During orientation, grandparents learn about the purpose, benefits and regulations of the program, the volunteer sites and children to be served.

Stipend
Foster Grandparents serve four hours per day, five days a week. For their services, they receive an hourly stipend. The amount is set by the Corporation for National and Community Service, and is not based on the minimum wage. P.L. 93-113 provides that payments a volunteer receives are not counted in computing their eligibility for government assistance or services.
