On June 19, 1990, the City Council of the City of Raleigh created the Substance Abuse Advisory Commission (SAAC) for the continued availability of a group to advise it on ways and means of dealing with the City’s substance abuse problems. The City of Raleigh SAAC was developed to aid the City Council in solidifying the City’s commitment to a permanent and vigorous effort to eliminate its substance abuse problems.
The mission of the Substance Abuse Advisory Commission, as an advisory body to the Raleigh City Council, is to advocate for a healthy community by promoting best practice for the prevention, intervention, and treatment of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse.
The Substance Abuse Advisory Commission advises the City Council on ways to deal with substance abuse problems. The Commission advocates for a healthy community by promoting the prevention, intervention and treatment of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse.
The City Council created the Commission on June 19, 1990, as part of a permanent and vigorous effort to eliminate substance abuse problems. The Commission’s activities include events for people to drop off unneeded prescription drugs for safe disposal.
