The Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board serves as the official citizen advisory board to the City Council on issues related to parks, greenway and recreation policy matters. The Board advises on matters related to the funding of the parks and recreation capital program, parks and recreation program policies, facility planning, and the acquisition of lands related to the parks and recreation program. The Board serves as a liaison between the City and the citizens of the community and also works to promote parks and recreation programs.
Regular Meeting Schedule The Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board's regular monthly meeting is the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm at Jaycee Park Module located at 2401 Wade Avenue. The public is invited to attend. Some meeting times may differ from stated times due to holidays or other schedule changes; check with the Department of Parks and Recreation at 996-3285 to verify a particular meeting time and place if you are planning to attend. Meetings are subject to change following public notice of at least 48 hours.
Committees The Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board consist of fifteen members, appointed by City Council to overlapping two-year terms. Three standing committees function to carry out the responsibilities of the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board:
The Parks Committee is responsible for the study of issues related to park facilities, features, developments, and modifications. The Committee prepares recommendations and proposals for the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board based on in-depth review and study of park-related issues and concerns. The Parks Committee meets the first Thursday of each month in the Jaycee Park Module Building, located at 2405 Wade Avenue at 6:00 p.m.
The Greenways and Urban Trees/Park and Greenway Improvement Committee deliberates, advises and makes recommendations to the Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Boardon issues regarding the City of Raleighgreenway system and the City’s urban forestry programs. The Greenways and Urban Trees Committee meets the fourth, Tuesday of each month in the Frank E. Evans Administration Building's Conference Room, 2401 Wade Avenue at 12:00 noon.
The Fred Fletcher Outstanding Volunteer Awards Committee plans the annual event that recognizes and honors volunteers who have made exceptional contributions to Department of Parks and Recreation programs or facilities. Nominations for these awards may be made by the public; nomination forms become available in January through the Parks and Recreation Department. The awards ceremony is held at Fred Fletcher Park each spring. The committee is comprised of current and former Advisory Board members and interested citizens. The Fred Fletcher Volunteer Awards Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month in the Frank E. Evans Administration Building,Conference Room, 2401 Wade Avenue at 8:00 a.m.
Mordecai Historic Park Advisory Board advises Mordecai Historic Park which interprets the history of North Carolina, Raleigh, and the Mordecai Family from 1785 to 1964. The mission of the Board shall be to promote, encourage, support, or undertake, either individually or jointly with governmental agencies and/or others, the advocacy and advancement of public knowledge and awareness of Mordecai Historic Park, and to provide general advice, guidance, and professional recommendations to the Mordecai Site Manger in carrying our the duties and responsibilities in operation Mordecai Historic Park. The Mordecai Historic Park Advisory Board meets the second Thursday of odd months in the Mordecai House, 1 Mimosa Street at 5:30 p.m.
