Equity and Business Development Issue Team
This issue team is responsible for developing methods for attracting new businesses, nurturing existing businesses and commercial enterprises, and the expansion of employment opportunities in Southeast Raleigh. The work includes identifying and resolving discrepancies when city practices acts as a barrier or deterrence to community economic development. Ensure that available Federal dollars tied to redevelopment areas are distributed to address issues with a balanced approach.
Responsibilities for the Equity and Business Development Issue Team

Identifies, supports and recommends programs and resources that can help fund and facilitate equitable and sustainable business development and growth in the Southeast Raleigh Assembly Area.

Surveys and identifies discrepancies in the city infrastructure services and community needs.

Identifies opportunities for improving the flow of city processes and services to the SE Raleigh Community and make proposals for change.

Regularly interfaces with Community Development Department to learn their operations, obtain information on upcoming grants, and make proposals to direct economic development dollars within the redevelopment area.

Educates the Assembly on Planning and Community Development tools in making change in the community.

Supports and advocates efforts to help businesses compete.

Coordinates efforts with all existing economic development organizations that can assist Southeast Raleigh’s business development.

Markets Southeast Raleigh’s business development potential to prospective real estate development and brokerage companies.
Meeting Information: This team meets the second Monday of each month at 1:00 pm at the Chamber of Commerce.
