Public Input into the Budget


2009-2010 Budget Review Calendar

Here is a brief timeline of the review process of the FY 2009-10 budget:

  • May 19, 2009: Presentation of Proposed Operating Budget and Proposed Capital Improvement Program for FY 2009-10 by City Manager
  • June 1 - June 30, 2009: City Council Budget Work Sessions
  • June 2, 2009: Public hearing on budget proposals at 7 p.m.
  • July 1, 2009:  Adoption of the Annual Operating Budget for FY 2009-10 and the Capital Improvement Program.

Council meetings and work sessions were held in the Council Chambers of the Avery Municipal Complex, 222 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.

Audio enhancements have been installed in the Council Chamber. Assistive listening devices are available upon request. Interpreters for Deaf and Hearing Impaired are available. If needed, please provide a 24-hour notice by calling 919-996-3100 (voice) or 919-996-3107 (TDD).

Public Hearing

The City Council traditionally holds a public hearing on the proposed budget document after its first regular meeting in June. Council meetings, public hearings and work sessions are held in the Council Chambers of the Avery Municipal Complex, 222 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.

Presentations

City staff will present, when requested, a summary of the proposed budget to Citizen Advisory Councils and other civic groups. The presentation gives an overview of new programs, as well as changes in revenues and expenditures.

Work Sessions

Although no public comment is taken during Council work sessions, these are open to the public. The budget notes, background research requested by Council on specific issues, are also available on the morning of each session.
