Mayor Meeker proclaimed the day Cardinal Gibbons High School Championship Day, honoring the school for its state championships in many sports, including cross country, cheerleading, soccer team, basketball, etc.

  • Attended the groundbreaking for the expansion of the N.C. Museum of Art  
  • Attended the 2006 Elected Officials Reception at Meymandi Concert Hall

Mayor Meeker threw the switch on 32,000 decorative lights lining Fayetteville Street at dusk, marking the beginning of a downtown Raleigh holiday tradition. Learn more about the Fayetteville Street Renaissance.

Visited the Women’s Healing Place. The City Council recently approved $160,000 for improvements to the non-profit women’s shelter as part of the Capital Funding Program. Learn more about The Healing Place.

  • Chaired a meeting of the MEAC Steering Committee. The committee works to manage the events around the MEAC basketball tournament, acts as liaison to local contacts, and helps meet the funding match for the contract with the conference.
  • Attended a meeting of the Budget and Economic Development Committee.
  • Attended the Make-A-Wish celebration at the Champions Club at the RBC Center.

Attended the Pacesetter graduation in the council chamber. The Pacesetter Fellowship Program is designed to guide business owners that establish businesses in southeast Raleigh.

12/18/06

Attended special joint session of the City Council and the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Mayor Meeker called the meeting to order by pointing out the purpose of the meeting was to consider an update on the convention center construction and amending the interlocal agreement.  The council and the board of commissioners approved an increase of less than 3 percent in the funding for the new convention center at the meeting.   • Attended the kickoff presentation for Safety Ambassadors, a program co-funded by the City with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance
  • Spoke with the Crescent State Bank Raleigh Junior Bank Board at Landmark Center in North Hills. The Junior Bank Board is comprised of local high school juniors and seniors who have qualifications in leadership and business, have excellent grade point averages and are leaders among their peers.
