Adventures at Umstead Camp - Ages 12-14

These action packed camps offers one week of fun daily activities that build adventure skills, character, and a sense of team.  Program highlights vary with each session and include mountian biking, rock-climbing and whitewater kayaking.  The camp focuses on building the outdoor skills necessary for an overnight trip to a unique area at the end of the week.  This overnight gives students the opportunity to apply all the skills they have learned in a final challenging experience.  Camp is held at Umstead State Park and is accessed ONLY by the Reedy Creek Entrance off I-40.

  • Session I & III: Mountain Biking   Session activities include biking on various local trails and parks as well as our overnight trip to Uwharrie National Forest.  Local trails selected for each session of camp vary based on weather and group experience.  Participant bike daily and this is our most physically challenging camp.

  • Session II & V: Kayaking:   Session activities include kayaking on lakes and rivers.  Participant boats are primarily a whitewater design with options for inflatable kayaks as needed.  River selection for camp varies and is based on water levels as well as group level experience.  The overnight location is to be determined based on water levels.

  • Session IV & VI: Rock Climbing  Session activities include bouldering, rappelling and rock climbing.  Activities are held a local climbing gyms and our overnight is at Pilot Mountain State Park. The camp focuses on building the outdoor skills necessary for an overnight trip to a unique area at the end of the week.   The camp will culminate on a trip to Pilot Mountain, NC. Pilot Mountain is known throughout the Southeast as one of the premier outdoor rock climbing sites in North Carolina. This location provides the perfect combination of challenge and adventure for campers to test newly acquired skills.
