Special Olympics Wake County

Special Olympics is a non-profit organization sponsored by The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department.  This program offers sports training and competition for individuals with developmental disabilities ages 8 and up at no cost to the athletes.  Ages 2-7 are eligible to participate in the Young Athletes Program through Special Education Classrooms.  Training is provided in 18+ seasonal sports annually.   SOWC also hosts 4 large local competitions annually. Brian Philpot is the Wake County Local Coordinator and can be reached at (919) 807-8378.

All of our Special Olympics programs are provided at no cost for the participating athletes.  We are very lucky to have The City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation sponsorship, but it does not cover the costs of sports equipment, non-city facility rentals, travel expenses, uniforms, hospitality, etc.  All of our expenses are paid for by individual and corporate donations received at the local, state and national levels.  Without donations our organization could not exist.
