Neuse River Greenway Trail
Citizen Advisory Council (CAC) District: North, Northeast, and Southeast
Background
In October 2007, City of Raleigh residents approved a Parks and Recreation Bond that included funding for the Neuse River Greenway Trail Acquisition, design, and construction. The Neuse River Greenway Trail is planned to extend from the Falls Lake Dam in north central Wake County to the Wake/Johnston County line in southeast Wake County. When complete, the entire trail will stretch for 28 miles including connections along both Walnut Creek and Crabtree Creek. It is anticipated that future connections will be made to the neighboring localities of Wake Forest and Knightdale.
Schedule
The first section of the trail from Falls Lake Dam to the CASL Soccer Complex, a length of approximately 8 miles, will begin construction in Spring 2009 and should open in Summer 2010.
The existing, approximately four-mile, gravel trail adjacent to the Hedingham Community to Anderson Point Park is under an expedited design schedule with construction beginning in late 2009.
The remainder of the trail is currently under design with design, permitting, and acquisition to be complete by June 2010; construction to begin in Summer 2010; and project completion/opening in Spring 2012.
Meeting Schedule
The City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a series of three Open House Meetings for interested citizens to learn more about the Neuse River Greenway Trail project.
