Leesville Community Park and Library

Citizen Advisory Council (CAC) District: Northwest

Background

Leesville Community Park is 55 acre wooded park located on Country Trail off of Leesville Road just south of the Leesville school campus.  The property was once a farmstead and contains remnants of the home’s chimney and the family cemetery with five grave sites.

In May 2007 the City Council approved the Master Plan for Leesville Community Park.  Elements included in the park master plan is a branch library as part of an agreement with Wake County, a community center, playground, picnic opportunities, and trails.  An off-leash dog area in the original draft master plan was removed from the east side of the site and was specified as an opportunity for future park development in the northwest corner of the site.  The Master Plan Report is provided below.

Status

Phase 1 of the park development and the Leesville Community Library opened on September 26, 2009.  Park elements included in this first phase are the temporary playground, heritage garden with short trail, and restroom facility.

With funds remaining, Phase 1 of the park development is planned to continue.  Analysis and design of paved trails, off-leash dog area, turn lanes and median on Country Trail and further programming of the Heritage Garden is to continue during fall 2009 through spring 2010.  For further information see Planned Park Amenities.
