Andrew Johnson Birthplace

Free Friday

August 15th, 2008: 10am-3pm

Stop by Mordecai Historic Park for a free tour of the Mordecai House, Allen Kitchen, St. Mark's Chapel, and the Andrew Johnson Birthplace. Tours will begin on the hour and half hour.These free tours are only offered twice a year, so make sure to check it out.

Then come out too an informational meet an greet August 19th at 6:30pm

in St. Mark’s Chapel at Mordecai Historic Park

Learn about volunteer opportunities here at the park, and meet other volunteers. A light snack and a tour of the property will be provided.

Afternoon Tea

Enjoy a dessert tea under the oaks at Mordecai Historic Park and delight in a discussion on the history and etiquette of tea with Southern Tea Lady: Constance Lue. Tickets are $5.  Reservations required.

Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson: Origins, Legacy, Memory

October 4th, 2008: 10am-3pm

Symposium: A symposium will be held at Mordecai, with a morning panel focusing on the early life of Andrew Johnson, and an afternoon panel focusing on his legacy as President.  The program will feature notable historians, including Hans Trefousse, Johnson’s foremost biographer. Registration is free but required.

Lunch: A BBQ lunch will be held at 12pm. Tickets are $5.

Haunted Trolley Tours

October 24th, 2008: 7pm, 8pm, & 9pm

October 25th, 2008: 7-10pm departing on the half hour

Hop on board the Haunted Trolley, if you dare, for a special late night tour of downtown Raleigh’s most haunted places. The trolley departs from Mordecai Historic Park and takes an hour long journey with a special stop at City Cemetery. Tickets are $10. Registration is encouraged as tickets may sell out.

Haunted Mordecai Lantern Tours

October 25th, 2008: 5-10pm

Since the Mordecai House opened to the public in the 1970s staff, volunteers, and visitors have reported paranormal activity. Take a late night tour of Raleigh’s most haunted home, and visit with just a few of its ghosts portrayed by Burning Coal Theater. Tickets are $5. Registration is encouraged as tickets may sell out.

Haunted Mordecai Free Festival

October 25th, 2008: 5-10pm

Enjoy a night of Halloween themed fun including food, music, games, and crafts on the lawn at Mordecai Historic Park. Paranormal investigation group: Past Researchers will be on site to reveal their findings from the Mordecai House and answer your questions. This event is free and open to the public. No registration necessary.

Come see the Mordecai House decorated for the season and celebrate the 200th birthday of Andrew Johnson: 17th President of the United States with exclusive tours of the Andrew Johnson Birthplace. The open house and Birthplace tours are free and open to the public. No registration necessary.

Lantern Tours

Mordecai Holidays: Lantern Tours

December 13th, 2008: 5-10pm

On this late night tour of the Mordecai House and grounds, visitors will get a glimpse of what life was like during the Christmas in the Civil War. North Carolina’s 26th regiment along with Burning Coal Theater will re-enact life on the front lines and the home front. Reservations suggested as tours may sell out.
