What Happens to Captured Water Brought Back to the Water Treatment Plant?

All water re-captured in certified tanker trucks must follow these steps before it is released into a drying bed or recycled stream:

Captured Water Quality Verification Procedure (Per Load):

  1. Upon arrival to EM Johnson Water Plant, the “Manifest and Chain of Custody for Hauling Captured Water” form will be checked and initialed by the Press Operator on duty.  All documentation must be complete or the load will not be accepted.  The four part form will be provided by staff at the EM Johnson Water Plant.
  2. All activities relating to the capture, hauling, and testing of captured water is to be documented, including: date, time, source location, contractor name, driver, gallons (estimated), whether it is City work or private for new lines, amount of de-chlorinating agent used, and the Press Operator’s initials.
  3. All captured water delivered to the EM Johnson Water Plant will be tested by the Press Operators and/or Laboratory staff.  If results are within acceptable range, the captured water may then be discharged into the drying beds or recycle stream location determined by the Operations Supervisor, Facility Manager, or ORC.
  4. If captured water does not meet acceptable water quality standards, the Operations Supervisor or Facility Manager will be notified.  The disposition of the water in the tanker will be determined by the Operations Supervisor or the Facility manager and the tanker truck driver will be instructed where to dispose of the load.
  5. Tankers that fail to meet acceptable water quality standards will not be allowed to haul captured water until the tanker is satisfactorily cleaned and re-certified.
  6. A copy of the “Manifest and Chain of Custody for Hauling Captured Water” form  will be forwarded to Ron Horton (919) 857-4540 for payment to hauler or billing to private contractors permitted after 2/15/2008.
