City Offers Online Information For CAT Buses, R-Line
Raleigh residents can now track the locations and bus stop arrivals for the City’s Capital Area Transit (CAT) buses and the R-LINE downtown circulator.
Automated vehicle locations (AVL) and projected real-time bus arrivals for CAT buses can be accessed by visiting www.RaleighRides.org. The website includes a map that represents CAT’s service area, along with a list of all CAT bus routes. The approximate locations of all CAT buses in service are represented on the map by small bus icons that update automatically every few seconds. Bus stop time points are characterized by icons on the map, along with estimated arrival times of the next two buses for specific stops. Although all CAT bus routes are displayed on the map, users can view an individual route if they chose.
The Downtown Raleigh Alliance and the City of Raleigh have also introduced AVL and projected real-time arrivals for the R-LINE. Citizens can go to http://www.yourhere.com/rline to view an online interactive map of the R-LINE route along with actual bus locations displayed in real-time. The live map, which relies on a GPS feed from an R-LINE bus, is updated every 5 to 10 seconds. The website also provides projected arrival times for the next approaching R-LINE bus and the following bus at two key stops: R13-Raleigh Convention Center and R4-West and Peace. These projected arrival times can also be viewed on mobile devices, such as iPhones or Blackberry smartphones. To access the mobile site, visit www.yourhere.com/mobile from your mobile browser and click on "R-LINE" from the top navigation.
The new AVL and new real-time transit information system for CAT buses and the R-LINE are the first wave of new technology to improve customer service. CAT is currently working on smart-phone and text-based application to access the new online services. For more information on CAT buses and the R-LINE, visit the City of Raleigh’s website at www.raleighnc.gov/transit or call 485-RIDE.
