NeighborWoods Delivers 1100th Street Tree
The City of Raleigh NeighborWoods Street Tree Program held a tree planting ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Boylan Heights, DuPont Circle. The ceremony commemorated the delivery of the 1100th tree delivered and planted through the NeighborWoods program.
Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker helped plant the tree and spoke about the value of the NeighborWoods program. Also, NeighborWoods participants received complimentary mulch and tree planting education in appreciation for their efforts and tree stewardship with the program.
The NeighborWoods Program is designed to add significantly to the trees lining Raleigh streets by planting trees on public rights-of-way along city streets. Residents receiving trees are obligated to plant and water the tree for two years. The effort results a new generation of street trees as the current canopy matures and ensures that new street trees are planted in areas where canopy cover is lacking.
Immediately following the ceremony, area representatives from The Select Service Marriott Hotels assisted in delivering and planting trees across the Boylan Heights neighborhood.
