City Assisting With "Extreme Makeover" Of Raleigh Family's Home
Several Area Roads Temporarily Closed And CAT Bus
The program features the rebuilding or renovation of a family's residence that has fallen on hard times and are outstanding members of the community. The homeowners are William and Linda Riggins and their three children. The City of Raleigh Inspections, Public Works, Police, Fire, Public Utilities and Solid Waste Services departments will be assisting the production and construction teams in various capacities.
The construction will require the temporary closing of several streets in the area through 12 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9. The streets are:
" Poplar Street from Mordecai Drive to Blount Street;
" Marshall Street at Mulberrry Street;
" N. Blount Street at Delway Street and Mulberry Street;
" Cedar Street at Blount Street;
" Oak Chase Lane at Blount Street; and,
" Person Street at Poplar Street and Cedar Street.
City of Raleigh Inspections Department staff will work around the clock with the builders to ensure all construction meets City code.
Raleigh police officers will provide security at the construction site. In addition, police officers will be stationed at the barricades that are closing the roads in the vicinity of the Extreme Makeover project. Traffic will be restricted to allow only area residents access to their homes. Postal service, school buses and trash collection will not be inhibited. Police officers will provide security at the Poplar Street demolition and construction site
Capital Area Transit (CAT) will provide a free park-and-ride shuttle from Gateway Plaza, at the corner of Capital Boulevard and Crabtree Valley Boulevard (near Bobby Murray Chevrolet), to Poplar Street for the Extreme Makeover Home Edition project. The shuttle service will be provided from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting Saturday, Dec. 2 and ending on Thursday, Dec. 7. There is no parking at the project site and traffic is expected to be congested in that area.
The area road closings require CAT's Route 3, Glascock, to run on a detoured route from Friday, Dec. 1, to Thursday, Dec. 7.
The following changes will occur on Route 3:
" Outbound - Blount Street north of Cedar Street and Poplar Street will not be served. Please use the bus stop on Blount Street south of Cedar Street or on Glascock Street.
" Inbound - Poplar Street and Blount Street north of Delway Street will not be served. Riders are asked to use the stops on Wake Forest Road south of Cedar Streeet or Blount Street south of Delway Street
