Arts Commission Issues Call To Artists For Art-On-The-Move Submissions
The City of Raleigh Arts Commission, in partnership with Capital Area Transit (CAT), is inviting local visual and graphic artists to submit artwork for the second Art-On-The-Move.
Art-On-The-Move is a public art project featuring artwork from local artists that is exhibited on the sides of CAT buses. Twelve (12) artists will be selected to participate in the project.
“Art-On-The-Move is an … excellent way to show off your artwork in a community setting,” said Patrick FitzGerald, an artist whose work was selected for the first Art-On-The-Move last year. “Seeing your work for the first time on an Art-On-The-Move bus is a real thrill and a contemporary way to participate in the arts community of Raleigh.”
Eligible visual and graphic artists must be at least 18 years old and have either lived, worked or attended school in Wake County for at least one year. All submissions for Art-On-The-Move must be received by the Arts Commission office by Dec. 10. Artists whose work is selected for the project will receive a $1,000 honorarium and have their artwork emblazoned on the sides of CAT buses traveling around Raleigh for a period of six months beginning in May 2009.
“We are excited about the opportunity to partner again with the Arts Commission,” City Transit Administrator David Eatman said. “Hopefully, the art will both entice new riders to our buses and help people appreciate the importance of public transportation to our city.”
