City Council Discusses Public Safety Center Project
The Raleigh City Council received information about the Clarence E. Lightner Public Safety Center at its meeting on Jan. 5. No vote was taken. Council members will resume discussion of the project at its next meeting on Jan. 19.
The council received information about several aspects of the public safety center, including the construction management at risk (CMAR) procedure that will be used for the project, value engineering and life cycle costs, job creation and program design standards.
The estimated $205 million Clarence E. Lightner Public Safety Center will be a state-of-the-art facility of 16 stories and approximately 302,000 square feet on the corner of Hargett and McDowell streets. Sitting on what is currently the site of the City of Raleigh Police Department headquarters, the public safety center will consolidate the City’s public safety operations and other local government offices and functions in one location.
The public safety center is named in honor of the late Clarence E. Lightner, who served as mayor of Raleigh from 1973-75.
The CMAR team for the public safety center is a joint venture of Clancy & Theys Construction Company and Archer Western.
