City Provides Funding To Tutoring Program For At-Risk Children

The City of Raleigh is committing up to $27,500 in funding to support a free summer tutoring and mentoring program for about 125 at-risk youth. The City Council approved funding for the J.T. Locke Resource Center (JTLRC) at its June 16 meeting.

Of the $27,500 in City funding, up to $5,000 is coming from the Police Department and up to $2,500 will be from the Community Services Department.  The remaining $20,000 will be taken from the City Council’s contingency fund. All the City funds are from this fiscal year’s budget. JTLRC’s summer tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk youth runs through Aug. 7. The agency offers tutoring, employable skills training, encouragement and self-assurance to youth ages 5 to 18.
