Youth Empowerment Summit Set For April 25
The City of Raleigh’s Human Relations Commission is presenting the First Annual Human Relations Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) on April 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center (registration begins at 10 a.m.). The theme for the event is "Empowering Today’s Youth to Become Tomorrow’s Leaders". [Click here for a pdf of the event program.]
The purpose of YES is to empower youth to think positively about their possibilities and to encourage them to take on-going positive action after the summit to achieve their goals. The goal of YES is for youth to use tools they learn to become active community leaders that make a positive difference in our community. Youth and parents attending the summit will experience forums addressing continuing education planning, financial literacy management, employment opportunities, and parenting skills classes. During the event, youth will showcase their talents in “Raleigh’s Making the Cut” Talent Showcase. The Triangle Lost Generation Task Force will host parenting panels.
Youth will also have the opportunity to participate in on-going youth empowerment initiatives designed to keep them engaged after the summit, including Millionaires in Training (MiT), N.C. State University’s Science House Photonics Program, City of Raleigh’s Teen Outreach Program, 4-H Youth Leadership Institute, and The Clarence Lightner Youth Leadership Initiative.
