Effective Immediately-Updated Process for Right-of-Way/Driveway Cut(s)

The City of Raleigh is providing a higher level of service to the development community by providing a plan review of driveway cut(s) for existing residential parcels that contain a dwelling(s) or proposed dwelling(s).  These reviews will help ensure that work done in the right-of-way meets existing code, preventing costly tear outs.

A variance may be requested for the following items:
a) More than two driveway access points on a single lot.
b) Not meeting the 20-foot minimum corner clearance requirements.
c) Not meeting the 3.5-foot setback to adjacent property lines.

If a variance is required the client must submit a Variance Application Form to the Inspections Department. The request will be reviewed and the client will be informed of the decision within five (5) business days.  Upon approval, the plan must be submitted to the Inspections Department prior to permit issuance.
