Come Join In The Fun With Upcoming Nature Programs


Birding for Preschoolers
Preschoolers can learn to identify birds too. Basic backyard birds will be our focus as we talk about their different colors and songs. We will explore the outdoors in search of these feathered friends. This class is open to participants from 3-5 years of age and the fee is $3.00. This program is held at Laurel Hills Community Center on Thursday, January 2, from 9:30-10:15 a.m.  Pre-Registration is required four days prior to program.  For more information contact Nature Programs at 919-831-6640.

Winter Survival
Where do animals go in the winter? Join a nature instructor as we find out how animals survive the winter. We'll take a walk and see if we can find evidence of animals in the park. This class is open to participants from 3-5 years of age and the fee is $5.00.  This program will be meet January 10 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Training Lodge which is located at the North entrance to the park off of Durant Rd.  For more information, please contact Jeri Smart at Durant Nature Park, (919) 870-2871.

Junior Gardeners
Come decorate a flower pot, plant a seed and take it home to watch it grow.  We'll learn how to care for your seed and about the parts of a plant.  This class is open to participants from 3-5 years of age and the fee is $5.00.  This program is held at Brier Creek Community Center on Saturday, January 24, from 10:30-11:30.  Pre-Registration is required four days prior to program.  For more information contact Nature Programs at 919-831-6640.

Follow Those Tracks
Discover how scientists follow animals to their homes. Learn to identify common animal signs.  Enjoy games and a craft to take with you. This class is open to participants from 8-12 years of age and the fee is $3.00. This program is held at Barwell Road Community Center on Wednesdays, January 24th, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Pre-Registration is required four days prior to program.  For more information contact Nature Programs at 919-831-6640.

Crafts from Nature
Let's see what we can find!  We will take a nature hike to collect materials for our craft.  Get ready to be creative!  This class is open to participants from 8-12 years of age and the fee is $3.00.  This program is held at Anderson Point Park on Tuesday, January 27, from 5:15-6:15 p.m.  Pre-Registration is required four days prior to program.  For more information contact Nature Programs at 919-831-6640.
