City Adds Supervisor Position For Community Centers
The City of Raleigh is adding a supervisor position to oversee two neighborhood community centers in southeast Raleigh.
The City’s budget for Fiscal Year 2008-09 (FY09) includes funding for a new full-time recreational facilities and program supervisor who will split duties between the John P. “Top” Greene and Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson neighborhood community centers. The City Council approved the FY09 budget on June 23. The new fiscal year began on July 1 and ends on June 30, 2009.
The hiring of a supervisor for the two neighborhood community centers will result in improved management of the facilities and better customer service and recreational opportunities for citizens using the centers, said Diane Sauer, interim director of the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department.
Among the new supervisor’s duties at the “Top” Greene center will be to work with the Historic East Raleigh and South Park Preservation and Education Program, a major project of residents in the neighborhoods served by the facility. At the Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson center, the supervisor will work with the Family and Friends of Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Association to plan programs. The association led the effort to have the former Southgate Community Center named in honor of Sgt. Johnson, a Raleigh soldier who was killed in Iraq last year.
In addition to the shared full-time supervisor, the two neighborhood centers will have part-time staff members. The budgeted amount for the supervisor position and the part-time staff is $60,395.
