Council Approves Design Services For Community Centers' Renovations
The Raleigh City Council has approved the selection of New City Design to provide design services for renovations to the Jaycee and Carolina Pines Community Centers.
The renovation projects will refurbish and expand the community centers to maximize room size and shape and to create more opportunities for flexible programming and rental space. Energy efficiency will be emphasized with the implementation of green technology for the buildings’ systems. Renovation work at the Jaycee Center will include improvements to the functionality of the weight room and large club room. A total of $700,000 for design, permitting and construction has been budgeted for Carolina Pines and $1,190,732 for Jaycee.
Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2010 with the grand openings occurring summer 2011. The centers will remain open during construction but operations will be impacted. One community meeting will be held for each project as a means to garner information from each community about their needs and perceptions.
