Containers for Purchase

The City of Raleigh provides single family households with either one 18 gallon sized green recycling bin or one roll cart to participate in the Raleigh Recycling Program. Whether to receive a bin or roll cart depends on whether your neighborhood has been phased over to the roll cart system yet. Roll cart areas are serviced every other week while green bin areas are serviced weekly. If you have more recyclables than will fit in one recycling bin, there are several things you can do:

1. Use other household containers (similar in shape and size) to put the materials in for collection, such as a clothes basket, small trash can, milk crate type box, etc. (Note: Additional containers must be used WITH with the city issued bin, not in lieu of it.)
2. Take additional materials to one of the City's drop-off recycling centers.
3. Buy an additional container.

Note: The city offers additonal standard sized 18 gallon size bins for $6.00 each.

Raleigh Recycling provides each single family or town home with one 95 or 65 gallon sized roll cart to participate in the recycling program. The recycling program is transitioning from the small 18 gallon recycling bins to the 95 gallon roll carts. You may only get a roll cart if your neighborhood has been transitioned over. To purchase an additional roll cart by mail, send a check for $42 for a 65 gallon or $48 for a 95 gallon cart to the address above.

Be sure to include a note stating that you wish to buy a recycling cart and the size (65 or 95 gallon). Include your name, phone number and the address where you would like the recycling cart delivered. Once payment has been received, Solid Waste Services will deliver the recycling cart to the address specified in the request.

Bin totes are also available to assist in getting the recycling bin to the curb. This handy carrier is similar to a "dolly" or hand cart. It works by rolling it up to a bin, tilting it so the two "hooks" fit under the lip of the recycling bin, tilting the bin back and simply rolling the bin away. Bin carriers can only be purchased by mail or phone. By Mail: Send a check for the correct amount ($18 each) to the address above.

Include a note stating that you wish to purchase a recycling bin carrier, the address you would like it delivered to and your phone number. The bin carrier will be delivered to the address you specify as soon as possible.

Each household receives one 96-gallon container from Solid Waste Services to use for garbage. For residents who consistently produce more garbage than will fit in the cart there are several options:

1. If you are not participating in Raleigh recycling program, call 919-996-6890 to get a recycling container!
2. Ensure that you are recycling all of the items that we accept. Visit the Acceptable Materials page.
3. Purchase a second garbage cart. Each household may purchase one additional cart for a fee of $40 each.

To purchase an additional roll cart by mail, send a check for the correct amount to the address above.

Be sure to include a note stating that you wish to buy a garbage cart. Include your name, phone number and the address where you would like the cart delivered. Once payment has been received, Solid Waste Services will deliver the garbage cart to the address specified in the request.

Mothballs contain toxic properties that can be harmful and should only be disposed at Wake County's Household Harzrdous Waste Facility. Avoid using them by protecting clothes in closed bags or try cinnamon sticks, bay leaves or whole cloves wrapped in cheesecloth.
