When the State of North Carolina banned disposal of yard waste debris from landfills the City of Raleigh stepped up to the plate and began weekly collection of yard waste at the curbside for its residents.
Once collected the yard waste had to be "recycled" into usable products so the Yard Waste Recycling Center (YWRC) was openned in November 1991 to do just that.
Yard Waste Center staff are also responsible for maintenance of the closed Wilder's Grove Landfill, an onsite Recycling Drop Off Center and the City's only Swap Shop.
The Scale Office also accepts spent rechargeable batteries to be recycled.
