Same Day Permitting

Process Description:

The Same Day Permitting process is designed for commercial and residential projects that do not require plans and meet the criteria below. If it is determined that the scope of work exceeds the allowed thresholds to be permitted under this process, a different type of review may be required.

Types of Applicable Work

Residential Projects
The following are examples of projects that can be processed as a Same Day permit:




Move Walls
Renovations - kitchen, bath, etc.
Altering space within the structure
Add circuits
Solar Equipment (water heater)


Add circuits for appliances
Car charging
Changing fuel

Fuel Piping

Running gas lines to gas equipment

Power Turn On

For any building that has been vacant for six (6) months or longer


Siding, windows, doors, rot, roofing, damage
Fire damage

Replacements (like for like)

Water heater replacement
HVAC replacement
Water and sewer replacement

Service Upgrade

Electric service upgrade

Mobile Homes

Mobile home repairs

Charging Station

Car charging stations inside the garage

Commercial Projects
The following are examples of projects that can be processed as a Same Day permit:



Construction Trailers

Temporary construction trailers only

Minor Alterations

Move a door
Add a window
Add a short wall (less than six (6) feet
Alterations to change electrical equipment

Minor Repairs

Siding, windows, doors, rot, roofing, storm damage

Replacements (like for like)

Electrical - switches, receptacles, fixtures, change light fixtures
Plumbing - toilets, sinks, dishwashers, water heater replacements
HVAC units

Service Upgrade

Electric Service upgrade

Temporary Power Boards

Temporary electrical board for construction

Expected Processing Time

Applications submitted in person prior to 4:00 p.m. will be issued the same day. Applications submitted after 4:00 p.m. will be processed within 24 business hours.

Electronic submittals will be processed within 24 business hours.

If it is determined that a project does not meet the Same Day Permitting criteria, applicants will be notified that the project will be moved to the Next Day Permitting process.


Next Steps

After a permit is obtained and work has begun, the next step is to schedule an inspection. Depending on the scope of work, one or more inspections may be required before a final approval is granted.

Additional Information

  • Contractors must have a valid contractor license (in the trade that the permit has been applied for) and an up to date Workers Compensation policy (or exemption form, if applicable)
  • Performance Bond and General Liability Insurance must be valid if work occurs in the public Right-of-Way
  • A Building Permit is required for all accessory buildings with any dimension of twelve (12) feet or more
  • If in a Flood Hazard Area, projects will be reviewed by Stormwater under the Next Day permitting process
