Water and Sewer

Big Branch Sewer Interceptor Replacement

Existing infrastructure found in this area is undersized and will be replaced and upgraded.

A sewer interceptor is a piece of a sewer network used to control the flow of rainwater, stormwater, and wastewater. Interceptors receive this water flow from interconnecting sewer lines and sometimes from stormwater runoff. This water flow is then directed to a wastewater treatment plant for filtration and disinfection.

Based on wet weather events, the existing infrastructure found in this area is undersized and in poor condition. This upgrade will prepare the wastewater infrastructure in the area for future demands and decrease wet weather issues. The project extends from Six Forks Road north to across I-440 and the North Hills area, with smaller sections located near Compton Road and Cedar Hills Community.
