TRASHION DESIGN COMPETITION

TRASHION DESIGN COMPETITION

19

The Trashion Design Competition encourages

individuals ages 14 and older to repurpose

materials destined for the landfill into a fash-

ion statement. According to the EPA, in 2012

Americans generated about 251 million tons of

trash and recycled or composted only 87 million

tons of it, just under 35 percent overall.

This creative opportunity showcases inspiring

unique and recycled garments created from

items that would otherwise be tossed in the trash.

The winner crafted inner tubes from bicycle tires,

an item seldom recognized as a waste product,

into a recycled garment that could easily be

mistaken as a wearable piece of clothing.
