The construction bid for this project was approved by Raleigh City Council on May 15 and awarded to S.T. Wooten Corporation. SEPI Engineering and Construction, Inc., also will be handling inspections and materials testing for this project.
Construction documents were approved on Sept. 19 by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the construction contract with S.T. Wooten was finalized.
A pre-construction meeting was held on Nov. 15. During this meeting, the City, NCDOT, and S.T. Wooten determined that it would be best to begin active construction for this project during the first week in January to account for the upcoming holiday season and the timeframe that it takes to order necessary construction materials. Although there will not be active work on the site until January, the contractor will be coordinating the relocation of private utilities, ordering supplies, and submitting required documents for City approval before construction begins to ensure that the project is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible. With this updated schedule, the project is still expected to be finished next fall (this date may shift slightly due to weather conditions and unexpected construction delays). Thank you for your patience.

The 52-year-old bridge on Lake Dam Road is located over Walnut Creek just below the Lake Johnson dam. The purpose of this project is to replace the failing bridge structure so that it is safe to travel over.

This bridge was built in 1966. Over the years, the condition of the bridge declined making it unsafe to travel. The new bridge will address issues with the bridge structure while meeting current design standards. Lake Dam Road will reopen once the bridge is repaired.
