City of Raleigh to Celebrate National Bike Month
With warm weather and blue skies, the month of May in Raleigh has always been a fine time to enjoy the outdoors. And with May being National Bike Month, there is hardly a better time to enjoy the benefits of riding your bike. Whether it is to get to work or to school, to save money on gas, physical fitness, or to simply explore your community, there are ample opportunities for bike riders throughout Raleigh in the month of May.
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Raleigh's Bikeshare Program
Thursday, May 2, 11:30 a.m. - Raleigh Union Station
The CitrixCycle bikeshare program began with an soft launch in March with 100 bikes and 13 docking stations. So far, the program has provided more than 2,214 rides and 4,413 miles of usage from 801 active users. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include speakers, a celebratory bike ride, demonstrations, and other activities.
Bike to School Day
Wednesday, May 8
National Bike to School Day is held annually at schools and communities across the country. Bike to School Day events are a fun way to bring communities together to promote bicycle safety and encourage physical activity for elementary and middle school students. Capital City Bike Ride
Friday, May 10, 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. - Raleigh Union Station Plaza
The Capital City Bike Ride is our signature kickoff event for Bike Month! Join City staff, elected officials, and fellow Raleighites for a casual morning ride through downtown Raleigh. This year we will be highlighting Citrix Cycle and some of our new downtown bike lanes.

Marbles Kid's Bike Rodeo
Saturday, May 11, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Bring your kid's bike, trike and helmet and get them rolling and ready for summer! Hosted by the Marbles in partnership with RPD’s Southeast District Community squad and local cycling advocacy group Oaks and Spokes, this event helps kids learn about bike safety and practice their riding skills through an obstacle course. Other activities include a Bike Bling Make Shop, Bike Swap, Helmet fittings, and maintenance checks.
Bike to Work Day

Family Picnic Ride
Saturday, May 18, 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Ride will begin at Chavis Park
Grab a blanket, some food, and your family and join us for this greenway ride to the Dix Picnic in the Park event. Enjoy your picnic lunch while listening to music and playing games at Raleigh's central park.
