Travis Crane is an Assistant Planning Director with the Department of City Planning. He oversees the Zoning Division and Comprehensive Planning Division. During his ten year tenure with the City of Raleigh, Mr. Crane has served on the project team to draft, adopt and implement the Unified Development Ordinance. This new zoning code will shape development for decades to come. He led the largest city-wide rezoning for the city of Raleigh, which fully implemented the UDO. He has also served on the project team for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan and managed the creation of Raleigh’s first future land use map. These two documents were the recipient of a Marvin Collins Outstanding Planning Award for the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association. He previously served as the Planning and Zoning Administrator.
Prior to employment with the City of Raleigh, Mr. Crane was a city planner for a suburb of Denver, Colorado. He was responsible for all facets of development review, entitlement acquisition, and maintenance of the zoning code and comprehensive plan. During his tenure he drafted the first Architectural and Site Design Manual and participated in many small area planning processes. He also has experience in private sector planning and land development. Mr. Crane holds a bachelor of science in Urban Planning from East Carolina University.
