Raleigh to Observe New Year's Day Holiday Jan. 1

The City of Raleigh will observe the New Year's Day holiday Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Most administrative offices will be closed.

Police and Fire Departments
Emergency police, fire and rescue services may be reached by calling 9-1-1. Don't forget to follow Fire Safety Holiday Tips.

Solid Waste, Recycling and Leaf Collection
The Yard Waste Center will be closed on New Year's Day. There will be no garbage, recycling, or yard waste pick-up on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

  • If your regular pick-up day is Tuesday, your garbage will be picked up Wednesday, Jan. 2.
  • If your regular pick-up day is Wednesday, your garbage will be picked up Thursday, Jan. 3.
  • If your regular pick-up day is Thursday, your garbage will be picked up Friday, Jan. 4.
  • If your regular garbage pick-up day is Friday, your garbage will be picked up Saturday, Jan. 5.

GoRaleigh buses will be operating on weekend level service, with last departures after 10 p.m. For more information on GoRaleigh or GoTriangle service, call 919-485-7433.

Dec. 31- First Night Raleigh Park and Ride, GoRaleigh shuttle services to downtown festivities.

Jan. 6 - New GoRaleigh bus routes launch in Southeast and Northwest Raleigh.

Temporary Street Closures
The following roads will be closed from 9 a.m. on Dec. 30 until noon. on Jan. 1, 2019:

  • Fayetteville Street from Morgan Street to Martin Street; and,
  • Hargett Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street.

The following roads will be closed from 6 a.m. on Dec. 31 until 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2019:

  • Fayetteville Street from Martin Street to Lenoir Street;
  • Martin Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street; and,
  • Davie Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street.

The following streets will be closed from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 31 and from 11:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.:

  • Lenoir Street from Salisburty Street to Wilmington Street;
  • South Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street.

Additionally, the following streets will be closed:

  • Edenton Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Dec. 31;
  • Morgan Street from Salisbury Street to Wilmington Street from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2019;
  • Salisbury Street from Jones Street to Martin Street from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Dec. 31.

On Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25, community centers, neighborhood centers, active adult centers, art centers, St. Monica Teen Center, Walnut Creek Wetland Center, City of Raleigh lakes, Forest Ridge Park, Annie Louise Wilkerson Nature Preserve, Durant Nature Preserve, Horseshoe Farm Nature preserve, historic and museum facilities, Millbrook Tennis Center, aquatic facilities, Pullen Park amusements, and John Chavis Memorial Park amusements will be closed.
