Annual Street Resurfacing Program to Begin
The Raleigh City Council on March 6 approved a $7,303,441 bid from Barnhill Contracting Company for the annual street resurfacing contract. City of Raleigh maintained streets that have curb and gutter are included in the annual resurfacing program.
The City maintains more than 1,095 miles of streets. The City maintains an inventory of streets that includes the last time a street was resurfaced and the condition of the street. Typically, streets in the worst condition are scheduled for the resurfacing program.
The work to be done by Barnhill Contracting Company calls for the resurfacing of 76 street segments for a total of more than 21 miles. The road resurfacing work includes milling of the existing pavement, adjusting manholes and water valve boxes, sidewalk access ramp installations, placement of new asphalt, and new pavement markings.
Funding for this project is provided through the adopted fiscal year 2018 Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget for street resurfacing. The Minority and Women owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) participation is 44.3 percent.
