Raleigh Names New Solid Waste Services Director

Stan Joseph, a longtime manager with Waste Management, Inc., has been named the City of Raleigh’s next director of Solid Waste Services (SWS), City Manager Ruffin Hall announced today. Mr. Joseph starts his new position managing the department responsible for Raleigh’s garbage, recycling, and yard waste services on July 16.
In his 12-year tenure with Waste Management, Inc., Mr. Joseph served as a district operations manager, and most recently, manager of community and municipal relations for North Carolina.
"We had a number of impressive candidates who could have built on the excellent services provided by our Solid Waste Department," said Mr. Hall. "Not only does Mr. Joseph bring strong technical experience and a vision for the future, we believe that he will be a charismatic leader for an important core function."
Mr. Joseph served more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he focused on logistic readiness. He earned a bronze star during his military career. Mr. Joseph graduated with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Park University in Parkville, Mo., and a master’s degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas.
"I am deeply honored and excited about this opportunity to work with the Solid Waste Services Department,” Mr. Joseph said. “I am looking forward to building on the great foundation forged by this amazing team that proudly serves our community."
Mr. Joseph succeeds current SWS Director Fred Battle, who is retiring after a 13-year career leading Raleigh’s Solid Waste Services Department.
