The City of Raleigh announced today the hiring of Veronica Creech as Economic Development Manager. Mrs. Creech comes to Raleigh from Washington, D.C. where she serves as Chief Programs Officer for EveryoneOn, a national non-profit organization creating social and economic opportunities by connecting everyone to the internet. Under her leadership, the organization has connected more than 500,000 people to the internet at home and helped lay the groundwork for more than one million to be connected by 2020.

“Veronica is a tremendous hire for the City of Raleigh,” City Manager Ruffin Hall said. “She has an excellent background as a team leader, in developing strategic partnerships, and navigating a complex and dynamic landscape. We are confident she will be a strong addition to our team and for the people of Raleigh. Veronica brings great experience in economic diversity and equity. She will help us overlay inclusion into our own strong economic development programs.”

The Office of Economic Development and Innovation provides leadership for economic development initiatives and promotes and supports the growth, expansion, and retention of businesses within the city of Raleigh. Assistant City Manager Jim Greene is serving as interim Economic Development Manager. Mrs. Creech begins leading the office on June 11.

“I am thrilled to be joining such a stellar team of municipal and economic development professionals in the City’s Economic Development Office,” she said.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in science and social work and a master’s degree in social work, Mrs. Creech also earned a master’s degree in public administration from Saint Louis University.

For more than 15 years, Mrs. Creech has served as a strong advocate for social change and economic development by forging strong partnerships between corporate, non-profit, and governmental entities. In addition to her time with EveryoneOn, Mrs. Creech was also Senior Director of Global Outreach and Engagement at First Book, a global organization aimed at ending knowledge poverty by providing books for kids up to 18. In her efforts, she worked with municipalities across North Carolina. She is also the founder and co-owner of Purple Porch Properties, a social venture that provides safe, clean, affordable rental housing and downtown commercial space in Wilson. Earlier this year, Mrs. Creech was named the 2018 Social Entrepreneur in Residence at UNC’s Jordan Institute for Families.

“A significant part of my career has been spent working and advocating for those in need by bringing together non-traditional partners for new solutions to problems and collective impact when addressing challenges,” Mrs. Creech said. “I love environments where we can work with a number of diverse partners to discover common goals and mutual benefits. I look forward to the challenges and the opportunities Raleigh provides.”
