Traffic Advisory: FNB Tower Construction to Begin May 11; Impacts Downtown Traffic, Parking

Construction is set to begin Friday, May 11, on the First National Bank (FNB) Tower at 501 Fayetteville St. Parking and traffic Downtown will be significantly impacted until early 2020 when the project is expected to be complete.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. May 11 the City of Raleigh will close the 500 block of Wilmington Street between East Lenoir Street and East Cabarrus Street to vehicles and pedestrians. It will remain closed through late Sunday, May 13, while crews assemble a large crane.

Immediately following the crane assembly, the 500 block of Wilmington Street will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Then from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, the road will be reduced to one lane. The lane reductions will remain in effect for the duration of the construction. On weekends, the lanes will be closed on an as-needed basis during the same hours.

Parking changes will also take place around the construction site. Public street parking will close on Wilmington Street and Fayetteville Street as will P4 access to the Charter Square Parking Deck. The entrances and exits at the Charter Square Deck will also be moved during the construction.

The FNB Tower is a 22-story office, retail, and residential building located between the Charter Square and One City Plaza buildings. It is a collaborative project between Dominion Realty Partners, LLC, Choate Construction, and the City of Raleigh.
