Sandy Forks Road Closed at Falls of Neuse Road Intersection

[Alert]News posted Mar. 27, 2017 - 4:00 pm

Beginning Monday, April 3, Sandy Forks Road at the Falls of Neuse Road intersection will be closed to traffic to accommodate construction related to the Sandy Forks Road widening project. The closure will last approximately two weeks. During the road closure traffic will be detoured to Spring Forest Road.

Construction crews will remove the roadway in this section of Sandy Forks Road and slightly lower the grade, improving sight distance and safety approaching the Falls of Neuse Road intersection. Crews are likely to work during weekend hours to ensure the timely completion of work at this location.

Following completion of the temporary road closure, Sandy Forks Road will reopen with a new configuration between Six Forks Road and Falls of Neuse Road. This will allow the contractor to focus on finalizing all remaining median work along the corridor. The median work is the final phase of construction and includes installation of two additional bioretention stormwater treatment facilities along the corridor. One facility will be located in the median just west of The Lakes Drive intersection. The other bioretention facility will be located at the southeast corner of The Lakes Drive where a sediment basin is now located. This bioretention facility will be added once all upstream areas are stabilized.

Construction of the Sandy Forks Road widening project is scheduled to be complete by July 1.
