Mayor Announces New Community Festival at Dorothea Dix Park

Mayor Announces Destination Dix

Mayor Nancy McFarlane, in partnership with the Dix Park Conservancy, announced the new Destination Dix community festival during a news conference this morning. The free, family-friendly event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 at Dix Park. It will mark the one-year anniversary of the sale of the Dorothea Dix campus by the State of North Carolina to the City of Raleigh.

In addition to enjoying music, arts, food and other festivities in a celebration of the past and present of Dix Park, event attendees will have several opportunities to share their vision for the future of 308-acre property through interactive activities.

“The goal has always been to make Dix a world class destination park that all North Carolinians can be proud of and enjoy,” said Mayor Nancy McFarlane. “In addition to bringing the community to this beautiful location for a great event, Destination Dix will spur their imagination about what they want the park to be; the sky is the limit.”

The Dix Park Conservancy is a nonprofit partner of the city comprised of local community and business leaders currently focused on fundraising efforts for Dix Park.

“The Dix Park Conservancy is proud to co-sponsor Destination Dix with the City of Raleigh,“ said Jim Goodmon, chair of the Dix Park Conservancy Board." Destination Dix will be a great celebration of what will surely be the greatest destination park in the nation.”
