Historic Allan Herschell Carousel Closed

John Chavis Memorial Park

The historic carousel at John Chavis Memorial Park is temporarily closed for essential repairs.

With its origins tracing back to 1923, the Chavis Carousel operates as a working artifact and unforeseen mechanical breakdowns can occur. Repairing this piece of cherished history requires the expertise of artisans who specialize in this delicate work, often with schedules booked months in advance.

Ensuring the carousel's integrity is a top priority for Raleigh Parks. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience and hope to reopen by summer 2024.
