All indoor athletic programming is on as scheduled.

Greenway Repairs and Closures

As greenways trails and structures age, maintenance and repairs are necessary. Due to the nature of this work, the trails will occasionally need to be closed to complete this work in an safe and efficient manner.

Sassafras Playground at Laurel Hills - OPEN MAY 21

Sassafras playground at Laurel Hills is now open as of Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

The playground was closed for resurfacing* starting Monday, April 29, 2019. Temporary repairs were made to the safety surface in late 2018 to allow us to keep the playground open through April 2019.

*In late November 2018, the rubber playground surface layers separated causing bubbling in the top layer resulting in trip hazards and closure of portions of the playground.

Laurel Hills Park – Boardwalk Repairs

Starting January 28, the boardwalk at Laurel Hills Park will be repaired. The repairs of the boardwalk, which is connected to the walking trail at Laurel Hills Park, will not affect trail access or boardwalk access.

Oakwood Commons Park - Partial Closure

The turf area of the Oakwood Commons Park is closed for maintenance. The playground area is open.

Pullen Park Carousel Closure May 20-24

The historic Dentzel Carousel at Pullen Park will be closed to the public from Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24 for planned semi-annual maintenance.

Guests are encouraged to visit John Chavis Memorial Park’s historic carousel, located just two miles from Pullen Park. All tickets from Pullen Park are also valid at the Historic Allan Herschell Carousel at Chavis Park.

Millbrook Exchange Community Center - GYM CLOSED

The Millbrook Exchange Community Center gym is closed for renovations in spring 2019. The project includes adding air conditioning and new sports flooring. The gym is expected to reopen by mid-June 2019.

Forest Ridge Park Mountain Bike Trail - OPEN

The mountain bike trail is OPEN.

Mountain Bike Trail status is affected by weather and trial conditions. Please contact the Park Office for immediate status or conditions 919-556-6781.

Pullen Aquatics Center - CLOSED

During the removal of the Pullen Aquatic Center roof system, we found that the condition of the structure requires design and repair beyond what was anticipated. The expected opening date is now June 8, 2019.

Lions Park Community Center - CLOSED

Lions Park Community Center closed for renovations Dec. 1, 2018. The center will be receiving HVAC upgrades, a new gym floor, new locker rooms, new restrooms, and accessibility improvements to the front entry. The center is scheduled to reopen June 2019.

Kiwanis Park Improvements - CLOSED

The Kiwanis Park parking lot, neighborhood center, comfort station, picnic shelter, playground, and basketball courts are closed due to construction. Construction is scheduled to be complete mid-August 2019.
