Sassafras Playground - Laurel Hills Park

Portions of the Sassafras Playground at Laurel Hills Park are temporarily closed. A large portion of the main playground is closed. The shelter, sandpit, swings, basketball court, and a small section of the 2 to 5-year-old play area are open. Due to temperature changes, the rubber playground surface layers have separated causing bubbling in the top layer that causes a trip hazard. We are working with the contractor, Landscape Structures to find a permanent solution.

For additional Raleigh Parks playgrounds designed for inclusive play, please visit the Method Community Park Boundless playground or Marsh Creek Park Boundless playground.

Durant Nature Preserve Lake

Repairs have begun on Durant's lower lake dam. The lower lake has been drained so repairs can be made. The project is expected to be completed mid-February 2019.
As a result, the service road across the dam is closed to the public and visitors will not be able to complete the lower lake trail loop that connects the north and south sides of the Preserve. The north and south sides of the Preserve can be accessed via portions of the lower lake side trail, white house road trail and/or the border trail. Both parking lots will be open during construction.
For more information, see the Durant Nature Park Lower Dam Repairs project page.
