Park Office

Park Office/Woodland Center

  • Come by the Woodland Center to learn about the park, take a class or access the greenway trail.
  • Open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., 8 p.m., or 9 p.m. (depending on month)
  • Classes, programs, and special events may lengthen hours

Rules & Policies

Park Rules

  • Swimming/wading is not allowed
  • All dogs must be under control and on a leash at all times. Pet owners must clean up after their pet, waste bags are available in the park
  • Bank fishing is not allowed, fish only from boats and the pedestrian bridge at Waterfront Program Center – all N.C. fishing regulations apply
  • Alcohol is not allowed
  • Smoking is only permitted in the parking lot
  • Hammocking is not allowed except on designated posts (see park map for locations)
  • Drones are not allowed without a permit from the Special Events Office at 919-996-2200
  • Collecting, removing, or introducing plants or animals of any kind is not allowed
  • Biking is allowed only on the paved greenway and the woodchip trail leading to the boardwalk at the headwaters of the lake
  • Please stay on designated trails
  • All City of Raleigh Ordinances apply

Access to Greenway and Park Trails


Nature Preserve

  • Lake Johnson has a dual park designation as half a metro park and half as a Nature Preserve. You can access the Nature Preserve portions of the park located on the south end of the park, from the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center through the park’s trail system.
  • Come site out on our back deck and observe the birds that come to the feeders located on the bird’s nest

QR Fit Trail

  • Six stations, found on the west side of the park, cover approximately a one mile loop where patrons can stop and use their smart phones' QR reader app to access short videos that lead one through specific types of exercises.
  • Patrons can now easily combine upper body, core, flexibility and lower body exercises with walking or running.

Site Rentals

Dogwood Room

Dogwood Room

  • $75/hour (2-hour minimum)
  • Capacity: 95 seated banquet style with tables and chairs.
  • This spacious room features a beautiful vaulted ceiling, floor-to-ceiling views of the park, and direct access to the kitchen and deck. Audio-visual equipment includes Wi-Fi, mounted projector, screen, speakers, and microphones. (Add to rental for $25 fee) Dimensions: 42’ x 32’.

Lady's Slipper Room

Lady's Slipper Room

  • $60/hour (2-hour minimum)
  • Capacity: 30 people seated at tables and chairs banquet style.
  • An ideal classroom or meeting space for a more intimate group. Includes direct access to the kitchen and deck. Audio-visual equipment includes wi-fi and HDTV monitor. (Add to rental for $25 fee) Dimensions: 24’ x 26’.

  • Warming Kitchen ($20/hour): Includes a refrigerator, freezer, stove, microwave, and counter space. Drop-down dividers open to provide convenient access to both the Dogwood and Lady’s Slipper Rooms. May only be used in conjunction with meeting space rental.
  • Gallery ($25/hour): This hall offers additional space to set up tables or allow your guests to mingle. May only be rented if both the Dogwood and Lady Slipper Rooms are reserved.
  • Deck ($30/hour): Easily accessible from both main rooms, this space offers shade, stunning views, and fresh air.
  • Bird’s Nest ($30/hour): Walk among the trees with this Deck extension.

  • Facility rentals may extend after regular hours of operation, as late as midnight; there is an additional $40/hour staffing fee applied to all time extending past regular operating hours.
  • Alcohol permits accepted (must be submitted three weeks prior to event). Permits only allow for consumption of beer, wine, and champagne in rented spaces. No spirits or liquors are permitted
