Current Activity

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is soliciting volunteers to serve on a Citizen Planning Committee for the development of the Barwell Road Park Master Plan. The Department is looking for stakeholders who represent the broad interests of the community to ensure citizen input in reflected in the master plan and to assist in notifying the community of opportunities to participate.
Public meetings to develop the master plan will kick-off in Fall 2016.

Brentwood Park Phase One is currently in the design process. City Council has approved the design for the park, and construction documents are expected to be complete early 2020.

Summary

The 2014 Parks Bond funded the creation of the Brentwood Park Master Plan, and will provide funding for design and construction of Phase One. Phase One will include refinishing the parking lot, a new comfort station, picnic shelter, and playground.

The Master Plan for the park was developed after, occurring over several months. It was the subject of five Citizen Planning Committee meetings, and three public meetings. The Brentwood Park Master Plan was approved by City Council on April 17, 2018.

History

Brentwood Park is located at 3315 Vinson Court within the Brentwood Neighborhood in East Raleigh. The 19.2 acre property was acquired by the City to provide a public neighborhood park. Marsh Creek runs along the eastern boundary, separating the park from Brentwood Elementary School, feeding a marsh area south including an adjacent 6.7 acre public greenway land parcel. There is an 1,000 square foot neighborhood center on the site, as well as open space, sports fields with support facilities, tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and creekside trails connecting to the adjacent neighborhood.
