Current Activity

The project is currently in the design phase. The 30% design was presented to Parks Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board on April 20, 2017. The presentation is now available on the project webpage. Staff and the consultant team will continue to refine the design and move toward construction documents, permitting, and ultimately bidding.

Summary

The planned improvements to Kiwanis Park are the latest phase in the parks revitalization. The Community Center will be renovated to accommodate Recreation Staff and increased programs. The existing shelter, comfort station, playground, and signage will all be replaced with new structures that meet current design, safety, and access standards. Input from the community will be gathered by the consultant team selected to lead the project through design and construction administration.

History

Kiwanis Park, located at 2525 Noble Road, Raleigh, NC, was deeded in 1955, and constructed shortly thereafter. The 2,400 square foot Neighborhood Center houses a meeting room, warming kitchen, restrooms, offices and storage. Other park amenities include a small playground, 2 full size basketball courts, a comfort station/shelter combination, baseball field, and two multipurpose fields. The total park site is 29.5 acres and includes greenway access to the Crabtree Greenway. A portion of the park lies in the floodplain of Crabtree Creek, and is bordered by Joyner Elementary School, and a mix of residential housing types.
