New Adult Programs at Halifax Community Center

Adult Programs Yoga Class

The Adult Program serves thousands of adults in the Raleigh area. While our clubs require a minimum age of 50 to participate, classes are open to all adults regardless of age. Join us at the Halifax Community Center for the upcoming fitness classes and quilting classes listed below.

You can register for any Adult Program online using RecLink or in person at any community center. Courses can be found easily in RecLink by searching the unique course "registration barcode" listed below.

Quilting for Beginners
Fridays, Sept. 14 - Nov. 16 - 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
If you have always wanted to learn to make a quilt or want a refresher quilting course this class is for you. This class will teach you about simple blocks, basic techniques and explores creativity. You will make a small quilt or wall hanging during the class. Learn how to choose and prepare fabrics, quilting terms, using a cutting mat, rotary cutter, and other tools. You will also learn how to machine piece a quilt top, make backing and binding, sew together a quilt top, batting/back, create a label and make a sleeve for a hanging.

Gentle Floor Yoga
Wednesdays, Sept., Oct., Nov., and Dec. - 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
This beginning class includes stretches to increase range of motion, simple balancing poses to strengthen muscles that support joints and breath awareness to calm and release tension. All standing poses may be done with the support of a chair. Blocks and bolsters will be provided however participants need to provide their own yoga mat.

Chair Yoga
Wednesdays, Sept., Oct., Nov., and Dec. - 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Chair Yoga includes stretches to increase range of motion, simple balancing poses to strengthen muscles that support joints and breathing awareness to calm and release tension. Props such as chairs, blocks, straps, and bolsters are used to allow you to open mindfully and slowly. Floor work may be included but not mandatory. All standing poses may be done with the support of a chair.

"AIM" Fitness
Mondays, Sept., Oct., Nov., and Dec. - 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The “AIM” of Adults In Motion Fitness is to be fun, challenging and calorie burning. Strengthen your muscles and improve your range of motion, balance, and flexibility through stretching, low impact aerobics and the use of light hand weights and resistance bands. This class can be done either standing or sitting.
